Depth Jump vs. Drop Jump: What’s the difference?

A quick post highlighting some of the key differences between depth jumps and drop jumps.

  Depth Jump Drop Jump
Drop Height 75 cm-1.1 m 30-60 cm
Amount of Knee Flexion Upon Take-Off The knees are allowed to bend as much as the athlete prefers to obtain maximal jump height The legs should be kept relatively stiff (within reason)
Verbal Cue Provided by Coach Jump as high as possible Get off the ground as quickly as possible
Goal Maximal jump height Minimal ground contact time

Nice summary! I’m going to enjoy doing the complete vertical jump course for my NSCA CEUs. Cheers!

Thanks Derek, if you have any trouble reporting or getting your certificate please don’t hesitate to reach out

Thanks Brett! Great course! I just finished the lecture & quiz and will be coming back to the videos and program over the next week.

As someone who did a “jump program” on VHS as a kid, I love all of the research and quick tips. It was quite fun to immediately jump a few inches higher from changing arm swing, penultimate step, and squat depth!

I couldn’t actually find the “dashboard” to get the certificate. Where’s the link for that?

          Hey Derek,

Sent you an email with the certificate, if you log out and log back in the dashboard is there where you can access your certificate.
